Students get rounds of 5–20 words, chosen from the ones they find hardest.

For students

Practice that knows which words you need

  • Smart rounds. Each round mixes in words you haven’t met yet with the ones you keep getting wrong, so practice time goes where it counts.
  • From recognising to remembering. New words are multiple choice. Once you know a word, you type its meaning — just like the exam asks you to.
  • A heatmap of the whole list. Every word, coloured from weak to strong, so you can see your progress through all four hundred-odd words.
  • Practise my mistakes. One tap after a round to go straight back over the words you missed.

The word heatmap: every word on the list, coloured by how well you know it.

For teachers

Set up a class in minutes, then watch it learn

  • Add a whole class at once. Paste in your students’ names; usernames and passwords are suggested for you, and you can print a login slip for each student.
  • See who’s practising. Who has practised this week, who hasn’t, and how many words each student knows well.
  • Find the gaps. The words your class finds hardest, a word map for the whole class, and every answer in every round.
  • Your classes, privately. No other teacher can see your students or their results. Year groups, renaming and moving students between classes are all built in.

Accuracy

Greek you can trust

Exam practice is only as good as its word list. Every entry is checked letter by letter: accents and breathings against the rules of accentuation, and every form against a dictionary. Mistakes in the source spreadsheet are corrected, each one checked by hand.

τίμη → τιμή ἄρχή → ἀρχή ἐσπέρα → ἑσπέρα

Greek is shown in Gentium, a typeface designed for scholarly Greek, so accents and breathings look right on every device.

How it works

  1. 1

    Teacher creates a class

Choose the word list for the summer your students sit the exam.

  2. 2

    Add students, hand out logins

Type or paste their names, then print a login slip for each student.

  3. 3

    Students practise little and often

A round takes a couple of minutes. The heatmap fills up as they learn.

Questions

Is GCSE Greek free?

Yes. GCSE Greek is free for teachers and students, with no adverts.

Which vocabulary list does GCSE Greek use?

OCR’s Defined Vocabulary List for GCSE Classical Greek (J292). Both versions are available: the list for exams up to summer 2027, and the new list for exams from summer 2028. Teachers choose the right one for each class.

How do students get an account?

Their teacher creates it. Teachers type their students’ names, the site suggests a username and password for each, and teachers can print a login slip for every student.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. It runs in any modern web browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install.

Can teachers see how their class is doing?

Yes. Each class has a dashboard showing who has practised this week, how many words each student knows well, the words the class finds hardest, and every answer in every round.

Is student data private?

Each teacher’s classes are private to that teacher. Other teachers can’t see their students or results, and there is no advertising.

How are typed answers marked?

Any one meaning of the word is accepted, small spelling slips are allowed on longer words, and words like “I”, “to” and “the” are optional. If a student is sure their answer means the same thing, they can mark it right themselves, and their teacher can see that.
